Next week we're working on 2-D shapes. The first grade standards in Texas have changed to include rhombuses and hexagons. I created a 2-D shape unit to include these changes. This unit is also aligned with the common core. I had the best time making this! I just couldn't stop adding to it. Click on the picture below to check it out.
This first two people to comment on this post with their email addresses can have this unit for free! :)

Short A and Short E Activities
We've spent the first few weeks of first grade reviewing cvc words and vowel sounds. Each week we'll focus on a different vowel sound. Last week was short a and next week will be short e. I'm creating a unit a week to review these vowel sounds. I'll post them on TpT as I complete them. I just finished short a and e. Click on the pictures to check them out.
Don't forget that the big TpT sale starts tomorrow!

Bird Classroom Themes
I don't know what it is about birds, but they make just the cutest classroom decorations. I've made several products devoted to my love of all things birdie. One of my favorite products is my bird color word set. You can see them at the top of my wall in this picture:
I have several other bird products in my classroom. They can be purchased as a bundle or individually.

Daily 5 Choice Cards
I just adore Daily 5! I've been following the program in my class for the last three years and it has worked wonders for my reading instruction! I can't say enough about how wonderful it is! If you'd like more information about using Daily 5 in your classroom, click HeRe.
I created some choice cards for my students to use during our Daily 5 time. I display each sign next to that choices' materials. In kindergarten, I have dots on each card for how many students are allowed at that choice. Students place a clothespin with their name on it on an empty dot.

Math Center Labels
I always start the year with a beautifully organized math center. Then by the second week of school, the counting bears are mixed in with the pattern blocks and the base tens are everywhere. I decided to get serious about math center organization this year. I created math center labels with pictures. Now my little firsties will have no doubt where their math materials belong. First Day of School Signs
I just LOVE Pinterest! I've found some of my
favorite teaching ideas on there. I saw several pins of some precious
signs for student pictures on the first day of school. Unfortunately, I
couldn't get any of the links to work. I went ahead and made my own and
thought I'd share them with all of you. These signs are perfect for your
first day of school student
pictures. Simply choose the page that matches your grade level and take
a picture of each student holding the sign. Signs are available for
kindergarten through fifth grade.

Back to School and Word Walls
I've been away from this little blog for so long. I promise to make it up to you with lots of new products, classroom pictures and freebies in the next few days. My kids started back to school on Tuesday and we've had a great week so far. I'm back in first grade with the same class that I had for kindergarten. Looping is so fantastic! We picked up right where we left off.
I had so much fun with the owl theme last year, but I decided to change it up a little for first grade. Here's a little preview of our classroom:
If you're looking for more word wall ideas, I also have an owl word wall set and a bird word wall set. Click on the pictures below to view them.

I wanted more room for words on my word wall so I made small and simpler letters. I separated each section with ribbon. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
